Identifying Critical Source Areas

چکیده

and Agriculture (NIFA) and Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) to evaluate the effects of agricultural conservation practices on spatial patterns and trends in water quality at the watershed scale. In some projects, participants also investigated how social and economic factors influence implementation and maintenance of practices. The 13 projects were conducted from 2004 to 2011 as part of the overall Conservation Effects Assessment Project (CEAP). The NIFA-CEAP projects were mainly retrospective; most conservation practices and water quality monitoring efforts were implemented through programs that occurred before the NIFACEAP projects began. By synthesizing the results of all these NIFA-CEAP projects, we explore lessons learned about identifying a watershed’s critical source areas in order to prioritize conservation practice implementation for better protection of water quality and lower costs. Identification of critical sediment source areas across the Gharesou watershed, Northeastern Iran, using hydrological modeling

In this study, the process-based watershed model, Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT), was used for simulating hydrology and sediment transport in the Gharesou watershed and for identifying critical areas of soil erosion and water pollution. After model calibration and uncertainty analysis using SUFI-2 (Sequential Uncertainty Fitting, ver. 2) method, the outputs of the calibrated model were u...

Assessing the risk of phosphorus loss and identifying critical source areas in the Chaohu Lake watershed, China.

Agricultural nonpoint phosphorus (P) pollution is a primary cause of eutrophication in many freshwater systems. Identifying areas that are at high risk for P loss in a watershed and concentrating management efforts on these smaller sections is a more effective method for limiting P loss than implementing general strategies over a broad area. A modified P index scheme was used to assess the risk...

Identifying Critical Sources and Evaluate the Best Management Practices to Control Nutrient Load of the Dez River Basin Using the SWAT Model

Using the best management strategies (BMPs) is a useful way to control pollutions at the watershed outlets, which, of course, requires spending costs. Prioritizing these strategies (especially in areas with scarce resources) will greatly contribute to the efficiency and adequacy of these methods in terms of reducing pollution and their application in critical areas. In this research, the SWA...

Targeting critical source areas for phosphorus losses: Evaluation with soil testing, farmers’ assessment and modelling

Diffuse phosphorus (P) losses from arable land need to be reduced in a cost-efficient way, taking into account their temporal and spatial variability. This study, based on 16 farms across southern Sweden, examined possibilities for identifying critical source areas for P losses based on the combined results of high-resolution erosion modelling, independent risk assessments by farmers, soil surv...

Assessment of Tasoki-Rigchah critical area in wind erosion production in Sistan plain

In order to determine the source and critical areas of wind Erosion, Sistan Plain, IRIFR-E.A method was applied. According to geomorphological investigations, the studied area consists of the following two main units namely: Pediment with 1 type and 8 geomorphological facies, and playa with 2 types of flatland and desert type that includes 9 geomorphological facies. On the basis of sediment, th...
